A crash course helps a candidate who has studied and needs structure or a gap filled. It cannot substitute for preparation, and buying one instead of studying is the mistake it is usually sold against.
They are marketed hardest to the people they help least, which is the honest problem with them.
What a crash course does well
Structure, for somebody who has studied unsystematically. A pass over the whole outline in a fixed period, with somebody else deciding the order.
It can also fill a specific gap efficiently. If ethics is your weak area and someone will teach it in three hours, that is a reasonable purchase. Move the exam.
What it cannot do
Substitute for the forty to seventy hours. A two-day course is two days, and no delivery method compresses a broad syllabus into it.
A candidate who has done nothing, has an exam booked, and buys a crash course as a rescue is buying reassurance. The 53 percent first-time pass rate is substantially made of that decision.
When it is a good purchase
- You have studied and want a structured review before sitting
- You have failed once and want somebody to explain what you keep missing
- One content area is weak and the course covers it properly
- You learn better from a person than from a page
When it is not
When it is replacing study rather than consolidating it. When you are buying it because the exam is in five days and you have not started.

What to check before buying
Whether it includes practice questions with real explanations, and whether it covers the outline by weight rather than spending most of its time on federal law.
