Two separate things happen and it helps to keep them apart.
On the day
When you submit, the screen tells you whether you passed. You collect a printed score report before leaving the center.
This is not provisional in any meaningful sense. It is your result.
About 72 hours later
The official score is validated and posted to your NMLS record, where your sponsoring employer and your state regulator can see it.
Nothing about your result changes in that window. What changes is that the system now holds it, which is what the license application needs.
It breaks your performance down by content area, and it is the most useful preparation document you will have for the retake. It is also the only diagnostic you get - the posted score does not add detail.
What the report tells you
A pass report tells you very little beyond the outcome, which is fine.
A fail report is worth studying. Content-area performance shows you where the 87 correct answers were not, and that is a far better guide to the next month than a general sense of having found it hard.
How this compares
It is unusually quick. The CFP exam takes up to four weeks after a testing window closes, and food manager providers vary by delivery method.
Same-day results are one of the genuinely candidate-friendly features of this exam. You know before you get to the car park.
