Arrive early with government photo identification, store everything in a locker, check in, work through a short tutorial, then sit 190 minutes of testing. You see pass or fail on screen at the end and leave with a printed report.
Nothing about the day is unusual, but knowing the sequence removes a layer of noise from a morning that has enough of it.
Before you go in
Arrive early. Thirty minutes is sensible - check-in takes longer than you expect and arriving late can cost you the appointment and the fee.
Bring valid government-issued photo identification. The name on it must match the name on your registration exactly, and a mismatch is a real reason people get turned away.
Check-in
Everything you brought goes in a locker. Phone, watch, bag, notes, coat pockets emptied. The rules are strict and they are enforced.
You will be photographed and may have your palm scanned. This is normal.
The tutorial
A short walkthrough of the interface before the clock starts. It does not eat your 190 minutes.
Do it properly rather than clicking through. The flag-for-review function and the navigation are what you will rely on at question 100, and learning them under time pressure is a waste of attention.
The exam itself
190 minutes, 120 questions, no scheduled break. You may leave for the bathroom under the center's rules, but the clock does not stop.
Halfway on questions should be somewhere near halfway on time - about 95 minutes. If you are well behind there, start banking the quick items and flagging the calculations rather than grinding through in order.
Finishing
Answer everything before you submit. There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so a blank is a wasted question.
Your result appears on screen immediately. You collect a printed report before leaving, and the official score posts to NMLS about 72 hours later.
If you failed, the report breaks your performance down by content area. Keep it. It is the most useful preparation document you will have for the retake.
