Hong KongID requirements at the test center
Unexpired government-issued photo identification with a name matching your registration exactly. Some centers require a second form of identification. A mismatch is the most common reason candidates are turned away.
The most avoidable way to lose an exam fee, and it happens regularly.
What is accepted
- Driving license
- State identification card
- Passport
- Military identification
- Permanent resident card

The name must match exactly
This is the real issue. Registered as Mike, license says Michael. Registered under a married name, license still shows the previous one. Middle initial on one and not the other.
Identity verification is an accreditation requirement, so a proctor cannot exercise discretion. Fix it with the provider beforehand, which is usually one phone call and no fee.
What is not accepted
Expired documents. Photocopies or photographs of documents. Student cards, work badges, credit cards, or anything without a government issuer.
A digital driving license on a phone is generally not accepted either, because phones do not come into the testing room.
For a remote sitting
The same requirements, held up to the camera clearly. Expect to be asked to move it so the proctor can read it and see the photograph.
Poor lighting is a common cause of delay. Sit somewhere the camera can actually see the document.
If you are turned away
You will normally need to rebook, and whether the fee is forfeited depends on the provider policy.
Call the provider immediately rather than rebooking online - a documented identification issue is sometimes handled more sympathetically than a no-show.
