Nevada regulates food safety through district health authorities. The Southern Nevada Health District, covering Las Vegas and Clark County, runs its own food handler and manager requirements, and Washoe County operates separately again.
Nevada is a district state, and one district dominates. Most food service in Nevada is in Clark County.

Southern Nevada
The district issues its own food handler cards and requires a certified food protection manager for most establishments. Both are needed.
The handler card is district-specific and does not transfer from elsewhere. The manager certificate is the standard ANAB-accredited product.
Two documents, two sources.
Clark County runs an enormous number of high-volume food operations - casinos, buffets, hotel banqueting. Enforcement is correspondingly organized, and the certified-manager requirement is not treated as a formality.
Washoe County
Reno and Sparks fall under the Washoe County Health District, with its own food handler and manager requirements. Similar in shape, different in detail, and not interchangeable with Southern Nevada. Check which district you are in.
Getting certified
- Choose any ANAB-accredited provider unless your state names an approval list.
- Prepare for eight to fifteen hours, weighted to contamination and employee health.
- Sit the 80-question proctored exam, at a test center or under remote proctoring.
- File the certificate with your employer for the health department record.
- Schedule the five-year expiry the day you receive it.
