So the day involves travel, a check-in, and two and a half hours in a room. Plan it as a morning rather than as something you fit around a workday.
The question underneath the question
Most people asking this have read that pre-licensing education can be completed online, and are trying to work out whether the whole thing can be done from home.
In Texas, the course is not the issue, because there is no course. TDI requires three steps for a General Lines - Life, Accident and Health agent license: take the examination, get fingerprinted, apply. No pre-licensing education is required, so there is nothing to complete online or otherwise.

Two in-person steps in the whole process, and both of them are unavoidable. Everything else is a browser.
Why an in-person exam is not a bad thing here
Our opinion, and it will not be popular. The examination is 145 questions in 150 minutes with no break, and it is a test of sustained recall under a clock that gives you 1.15 minutes a question.
That is a hard thing to do well at a kitchen table with a doorbell in it. Sitting it in a room with nothing in it is a real advantage, and it costs you a morning.
