Self-study is a strong default here, because Section 82 of the Twenty-Eighth Edition is the syllabus, it's part of Rule 6A-4.0021, and it's free. A taught course earns its money in two cases: rebuilding Mathematics from a standing start, and getting an essay read by a person.
Before anything else, a word that does two jobs in Florida and catches people out.
A Florida-approved teacher preparation program is part of a certification route, and the state decides which programs are approved. An exam prep course is a product. This page is about the second kind. Sitonce is a prep product and is not an approved teacher preparation program, so nothing you buy from us can satisfy a route requirement that names one.
Why self-study works better here than for most exams
The syllabus is a rule. Section 82 of Competencies and Skills Required for Teacher Certification in Florida, Twenty-Eighth Edition, is incorporated by reference into Rule 6A-4.0021 and effective from 1 September 2025. Ten competencies and 57 skills across the three multiple-choice subtests, plus one competency and 11 skills for the essay.
That's a closed list, published in full, at no cost. Add the Test Structure document for the counts and the clock, and the Maximum Percentages table for what a scaled 200 is worth per subtest, and you have the specification a course provider is working from.
For most examinations the awarding body publishes a vague outline and a course is buying you somebody's reconstruction of the real scope. Not here.
What self-study is bad at

The first row is the one that matters and it's the one nobody talks about. The essay is one written response in 50 minutes, scored holistically by at least two qualified raters whose scores are summed against a passing total of 6. You cannot self-mark that. Reading your own essay against a rubric tells you what you meant, not what a stranger read.
Who should buy a course
- Anyone rebuilding Mathematics from a standing start. 35 questions in 100 minutes across number sense, geometry, algebra and statistics is a lot of ground, and being stuck alone for a fortnight is how people quit
- Anyone who has failed the essay, where a taught course with marked essays is doing something no bank does
- Anyone who has tried self-study twice and not started. Paying for structure is a legitimate purchase and there's no shame in it
Everyone else can probably work from the free documents plus a source of timed, weighted practice. That's our honest read and it isn't the one that makes us the most money.
The hybrid most people actually want
Self-study the three multiple-choice subtests, because the material is published and the practice is mechanical. Buy a human for the essay, once, and send them two attempts rather than one. The second attempt is where you find out whether the feedback landed.
We'd rather tell you that than pretend a chapter on essay structure is the same thing. We teach the essay subtest and we do not mark essays, so on that particular gap we're describing a purchase we don't sell. What essay feedback costs elsewhere goes into what to look for.
The thing to do before either
Check whether you need to sit it. Rule 6A-4.0021(12) accepts qualifying GRE, SAT, ACT and CLT scores subtest by subtest, and an SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 560 covers three of the four. Studying for a requirement you've already met is the most expensive mistake on this page, and it costs nothing to rule out.

When you're rebuilding Mathematics from scratch, when you've failed the essay and need marked practice, or when you've tried alone twice and not started. Otherwise the free documents plus timed practice do the same job.
