Courses split into live tuition, recorded video and self-paced online. None of them is a Florida-approved teacher preparation program, and that word does two jobs in this market. Judge a course on whether it treats the four subtests as four separate passes, and on whether a person reads your essay.
There's a naming collision in this market that costs people money, so it goes first.
An approved teacher preparation program is part of a certification route and Florida decides which programs are approved. An exam prep course is a product that helps you pass a test. Both get described as FTCE preparation. Sitonce is not an approved program, cannot become part of your certification route, and would be misleading you if it implied otherwise. If your route requires an approved program, check the state's own list before you pay anyone.

The eight questions worth asking any provider
- What's the pass mark? If the answer is one percentage for the whole test, the provider hasn't read the Maximum Percentages table. There are three published figures and each is a maximum: at most 63% correct for English Language Skills, at most 70% for Reading, at most 63% for Mathematics
- Does the course treat the four subtests as four separate registrations and four separate passes? You can fail one and retake only that one
- Does a human being read your essay, and how many essays are included?
- Does it teach against the competencies in Section 82 of the Twenty-Eighth Edition, and can it name the competency behind a question?
- Does it include full-length timed practice at the real question counts: 30, 30 and 35?
- Does it tell you about the alternative-score route, or does it hope you don't ask?
- What happens if you fail? A retake is a fresh USD 32.50 and a 30-day wait, so how long does access last?
- Is it a subscription, and when does it renew?
Question six is the one that separates honest providers from the rest. Rule 6A-4.0021(12) accepts qualifying GRE, SAT, ACT and CLT scores in place of these subtests, and a course that never mentions it is selling to people who may not need it.
Why the essay question matters more than it looks
The essay is 50 minutes, one written response, scored holistically by at least two qualified raters whose scores are summed against a passing total of 6. That's a person reading your work. No amount of multiple-choice practice substitutes for it, and its published first-attempt pass rate of 64% is the lowest of the four subtests.
So a course that includes marked essays is offering something structurally different from one that doesn't. We don't mark essays. We teach the subtest in a chapter of its own and we say so on every surface, because dodging it would be worse than the gap itself. What we're not telling you about price
We haven't checked the current price of a single competing course against a live checkout, so no figure for one appears anywhere on this site. Anything we printed would be a guess dressed as research.
The market shape is worth knowing even without numbers. Live tuition prices by the hour and is by a distance the most expensive route. Group classes price per course. Online courses price either once for a fixed access period or monthly until you cancel, and the monthly ones are where people quietly overspend, because the exam date moves and the billing doesn't. Ours is USD 79 once for 12 months, refundable in full for 7 days while you've used no more than a fifth of the content.
Who should actually buy a course
Our honest read: fewer people than buy one. If you're rebuilding Mathematics from a standing start, a taught course earns its money, because being stuck alone on algebra for a fortnight is how people give up. If you already have the content and failed on pace, a course is the wrong purchase and a bank of timed papers is the right one.
And if you hold an SAT, ACT, GRE or CLT score from a qualifying administration, the right purchase may be nothing at all.
