There is no discounted retake. You apply again and pay the fee again, currently USD 129.
Waiting periods
PTCB sets an interval between attempts, and it lengthens for later ones. After a number of attempts, evidence of acceptable preparation activities must be provided and approved before another is permitted.

A candidate who sits early to see what the exam is like has spent USD 129 and started a clock that gets slower with each attempt. A full-length timed paper costs nothing comparable and answers the same question.
What to do before rebooking
- Wait for the official scaled score and read how far short you were
- Decide whether it was knowledge, pace or reading, because the three need different responses
- Rebuild against the current outline, since material written before 6 January 2026 is weighted to the old paper
- Rebook only when a full-length timed paper lands where you want it
The most common mistake on a retake
Studying the same way, harder. If you ran out of time, more content knowledge does not help. If you knew the material and misread the questions, more questions will not help either unless you change how you read them.
The good news
A second attempt is usually much better than the first, because the format is no longer a surprise and the diagnosis is available. Most of the disadvantage of a first sitting is not knowing what it feels like.
