Most PTCE material on the open web is weighted to a paper that no longer exists. Here is how to tell in two minutes.
Check one: the weights
Find where it states the domain percentages. If it says Medications 40 percent and Federal Requirements 12.5 percent, it is written to the superseded outline.
Current is Medications 35, Patient Safety and Quality Assurance 23.75, Order Entry and Processing 22.5, Federal Requirements 18.75.
A publisher can change a copyright date, a cover and a title without reweighting a question bank, and many do. The percentage split is the thing that costs real work to update, which makes it the most honest signal on the page.
Check two: does it mention serialization?
Product serialization and the Drug Supply Chain Security Act is a named knowledge area. Material that does not cover it is not covering the outline.
Check three: does it state a percentage pass mark?
If it tells you that you need 75 percent, or any other percentage, it is wrong. PTCB reports a scaled score with a pass at 1,400 on a 1,000 to 1,600 scale and publishes no percentage cut.
A source confident about a number that does not exist is a source to stop using.
Check four: does it quote a pass rate?
PTCB does not publish one. Any figure quoted for the PTCE pass rate has been estimated by whoever printed it.

What to do if it fails
Older material is not worthless. The pharmacology has not changed and neither has most of the arithmetic.
What has changed is how much of the paper each part is worth, and the federal content is where both the growth and the newest material sit. Use the old book for drug classes; do not use it to decide where your hours go.
