That is the honest headline figure. It is also the smallest number in this article, which is the part worth understanding before you commit.

Registering early is the single easiest saving available, and most people miss it for the same reason: they are waiting to feel ready before committing money. Book early anyway. You can prepare into a booked date. You cannot get the early-bird price back.
CFP Board charges one registration fee per attempt. Failing means registering again at the standard rates - so a second attempt is roughly another USD 925, plus a four-month wait for the next window.
The bill nobody adds up
The exam fee is not the cost of getting certified. Here is the fuller picture, and it is considerably less comfortable.

The coursework is the dominant line and it is the one most cost articles skip, presumably because "CFP exam cost" is the query and the coursework is not the exam. But you cannot sit without it, so treating it as a separate purchase is a bit like quoting the price of a wedding ring and not the wedding.
Where preparation costs sit
Between the coursework and the exam there is a gap, and it is a real one. The coursework is mandated by CFP Board; the exam is administered by Prometric. Finishing one does not mean you have been prepared for the other, and most candidates put another 250 to 300 hours in before they sit.
That gap is why a review market exists at all. It is also why review prices vary so much - some providers sell a full second course, others sell a question bank, and the two are priced as though they were the same thing.

Is it worth it?
Add it up honestly and the route to CFP certification is a five-figure commitment in most cases, before you count the year of evenings. That is a real decision and it deserves better than a shrug.
It is straightforwardly worth it if a firm requires the marks or you are moving into advisory work where they are the entry ticket. It is much less obviously worth it if you are hoping the letters will create demand that is not already there. Find out which situation you are in before you enroll, not after.
