What the standard says
The accreditation standard governs how the exam is built and administered rather than imposing a national retake schedule, so providers set their own.
Typical patterns: immediate rebooking allowed, or a short waiting period after a second or third failure. Some also switch you to a different form automatically.
Check three things
- Whether a waiting period applies at all, and after how many attempts.
- Whether the retake fee differs from the original.
- Whether you can switch providers - you generally can, and the certificate is equally valid.
That third option is worth knowing. A provider imposing a waiting period does not prevent you sitting an accredited exam elsewhere.
Why waiting is better anyway
The instinct after failing is to rebook while it is fresh. What was fresh was the specific questions, and the retake draws a different form from the same rules.
A week spent on the content areas your feedback flagged is worth far more than sitting again on Tuesday with the same preparation.
What a week should contain
Six to eight hours, seventy per cent of it on the weakest three content areas from the feedback, plus a re-drill of the temperature and time numbers.
Then two full mocks. Book once both are above 80 per cent.
If a jurisdiction deadline is pressing
Tell your employer where you are. An establishment that needs a certified manager can usually accommodate a fortnight, and an honest timeline is better than a rushed second failure.
Two failures cost about USD 120 plus two proctored sessions, which is more than any bundle.
