Your state board of pharmacy, then your employer, then your local job listings. If any of the three names one, that is your answer.

What is genuinely worth comparing

- Total cost including any required program
- Recognition in the state you are in and any state you might move to
- Renewal requirements, since both are recurring commitments
The eligibility point matters most
PTCB accepts 500 hours of documented work experience as an alternative to a recognized program. For a working technician that route removes the largest cost in the process. Match the outline.

Match your preparation material to that body's current outline. PTCB's changed on 6 January 2026, and material predating a change is the most common preparation failure regardless of who is examining you. That is the comparison.
