Sixty questions in ninety minutes is the real paper's shape, and the free mock keeps it. That works out at a minute and a half per question, which is the constraint most people underestimate - see time management in the exam.
The mock draws on the same syllabus weighting as the paper, so the topics that carry the most marks carry the most questions here too. It is one of five mock forms we hold, and the questions in it do not appear in the practice pool - a mock only measures anything if you have not met its questions already.
What your score actually means
The number to watch is 42. Not 70%, not a percentage at all: 42 questions right, out of 60. Thinking in questions rather than percentages changes how you read a result: eighteen wrong is a pass, nineteen is not, and that margin is thinner than it sounds when four or five of your answers were coin flips. The bands below are our read of what a mock score tends to mean, not published data. HKSI does not release anything that would let anyone calibrate them properly.

A single score has a lot of luck in it, in both directions. If the result surprises you, high or low, the useful move is a second form, not a conclusion.
What to do with the questions you got wrong
The score is the least interesting thing the mock produces. Every wrong option in our bank is there for a reason and carries a named misconception, so a wrong answer tells you which specific confusion you have, not just that you have one.

When to take it
Earlier than feels comfortable. Sitting a mock while you still know you are not ready feels like a waste, and it is the single most useful thing you can do in week one, because it tells you where the work is instead of letting you guess. When to start mocks goes into the timing.
The other four forms sit behind the paid product. If the free one is enough for you, that is a fine outcome. Take it, use the result, and go and read the Ordinance.

Is the HKSI Paper 1 practice test really free?
Yes. Sixty questions, scored in place, with no account and no payment details. The sign-up prompt comes after your result rather than before the first question. Four further mock forms sit behind the paid product, but the first one is not gated.
How many questions do I need to pass HKSI Paper 1?
Forty-two out of sixty, which is the 70% pass mark. That leaves eighteen wrong answers as your margin. It is worth thinking in questions rather than percentages, because it makes the size of that margin much clearer.
Is the free mock the same as the real HKSI Paper 1 exam?
It is the same shape (60 questions, 90 minutes, 70% to pass, closed book, four options) and it follows the same syllabus weighting. It is not real exam questions; HKSI does not publish those, and anyone offering them is not being straight with you.
Can I take the free practice test more than once?
You can, but a second sitting of the same form measures your memory of that form rather than your knowledge of the syllabus. If you want a second reading, take a different mock form instead.
What score on the practice test means I am ready to book?
Clear of 42 on a form you have not seen before, with enough margin that a couple of bad questions would not sink it. A bare pass on a mock is not a comfortable place to book from, because exam-day nerves usually cost you a question or two.
