The AZ-104 registration path
AZ-104 registration begins from Microsoft’s certification experience. Sign in to the Microsoft Learn profile you want associated with the exam, open the Azure Administrator Associate certification page, and choose the AZ-104 exam scheduling link. Microsoft routes candidates to its exam delivery provider. The screens then show the delivery methods, languages, locations, available appointments, and price for the candidate’s market. The path can change as Microsoft updates its certification site, so use the exam link from the current certification page rather than an old bookmark or a third-party booking link.
The booking is not complete when you merely create a Learn account or view a date. Follow the provider’s steps through appointment confirmation and payment or voucher redemption, then save the confirmation details. Check the exam title and code, delivery language, delivery method, time zone, date, and identification name. If you are using a voucher, check its expiration and any limitations before applying it. A voucher does not guarantee an appointment at a preferred time or location.
Use a Microsoft account that you expect to retain. If your exam profile is connected to a work or school account, changing employers or losing account access can make records harder to retrieve. Microsoft’s account guidance encourages a personal Microsoft account for certification records. If you have multiple Learn profiles, resolve that before registering so the exam result and eventual credential are associated with the intended profile.
Choose a delivery method
Depending on the country, language, and available appointments, the provider may offer a Pearson VUE test center, online proctoring, or both. The United States and Hong Kong are markets in which the certification is relevant, but that does not guarantee a particular local center, language, or online appointment. The provider’s current scheduler is the evidence for your options. A test center can reduce home-network and room setup concerns. Remote delivery can reduce travel but requires a compliant workspace, supported computer, stable internet, webcam, microphone, and a successful system check.
Choose based on your actual conditions. If your home has frequent interruptions, shared rooms, or unreliable internet, an available test center may be safer. If a center requires a long trip or has few appointment choices, online delivery may be more practical if you can prepare a private room and compatible device. Do not assume that either mode is inherently easier. Both require following proctor instructions and identity checks.
For online exams, read the provider’s current room and workstation policies. Common requirements include clearing the desk, removing unauthorized screens and notes, closing unrelated applications, and remaining visible to the proctor. A work-managed computer may block secure exam software; a personal computer may have unsupported operating system settings or security software. Test the system on the same computer and network you plan to use. Resolve a warning before exam day rather than discovering it at launch.
Identity and profile details
The name on the appointment must match the identification required by the delivery provider. Review the provider’s current ID rules for your country, including accepted document types, name format, and any secondary identification. Do not assume that a nickname, missing middle name, or recently changed surname will be accepted. If the profile needs correction, follow the provider’s process before the deadline; last-minute edits may not solve a mismatch.
For example, a candidate uses a shortened first name at work but a legal name on government identification. The candidate should register with the name that complies with the provider’s identity policy and correct an existing profile early if necessary. If a marriage or legal name change occurred after booking, check how the provider handles it and bring the required supporting documentation. The proctor’s identity decision controls entry, so a confirmation email alone does not override a mismatch.
Also verify that your email and contact information are correct. These details may be used for reminders, account recovery, and score-report notices. Save the appointment confirmation somewhere accessible without relying only on an employer mailbox. If you need an accommodation, start the accommodation request process before selecting an exam date. Approval and scheduling may take time, and a standard appointment may not reflect the approved arrangement automatically.
Appointment timing and exam duration
Microsoft’s current exam-duration policy lists 100 minutes of exam time and 120 minutes of seat time for a role-based exam without labs. If labs may be present, it lists 120 minutes of exam time and 140 minutes of seat time. Microsoft does not publish in advance which exams include labs, and a candidate should not assume a fixed AZ-104 composition. The booking and launch instructions show the applicable appointment information. Seat time includes check-in, instructions, and other exam steps; it is not simply additional time for answering questions.
Allow more time around an appointment than the stated seat time. At a test center, plan for travel, parking, check-in, and security procedures. For an online session, complete the system check early, prepare the room, and avoid scheduling another meeting immediately afterward. A late arrival or failed check-in can become a missed appointment under the provider’s rules. Arriving early gives you a chance to handle routine issues without using exam time.
Microsoft role-based exams allow restricted access to Microsoft Learn during the test, without additional time. The available interface excludes functions such as Q&A, practice assessments, and profile access. This is not the same as unrestricted internet searching, and it cannot replace preparation. If you want to understand the allowed interface, read Microsoft’s current exam experience policy and sandbox information. Do not plan a strategy that depends on finding every answer during the appointment.
Rescheduling and cancellation
The delivery provider controls appointment changes, cancellation deadlines, and any consequences for a late change or no-show. Read the terms presented during scheduling and retain the confirmation. Do not assume a universal cancellation window or fee; the applicable rules can depend on the provider, region, appointment, and timing. If you need to change the appointment, use the provider’s account or contact process before the stated deadline and confirm that the change succeeded.
A candidate who gets sick the day before should not wait until after the appointment to ask about options. Open the appointment details, review the change deadline, and contact the provider if the interface does not offer the needed action. A candidate whose work schedule changes two weeks earlier has more flexibility, but should still complete the reschedule and save the revised confirmation. A verbal promise or unsubmitted change request may not update the booking.
If a technical failure interrupts an online exam, follow the proctor’s instructions and document any case or incident number. Microsoft’s retake policy describes a specific wait-period waiver in limited circumstances involving an internet or equipment disruption reported through Pearson VUE; it is not a general waiver for an ordinary failed result. Keep the distinction between an exam appointment issue and a score outcome clear.
Price and payment
Microsoft varies exam pricing by the country or region where the exam is proctored. The scheduler shows the current charge for the selected location, currency, delivery, and date. There is no single worldwide AZ-104 price. Do not compare a quoted price from another region as if it necessarily applies to your checkout. If an employer, school, or training provider supplied a voucher, check the terms and expiration date and confirm that it is valid for AZ-104 in your market.
Before payment, check whether the voucher covers one attempt or includes other conditions. Microsoft’s exam retake policy says retakes are paid where applicable; a first exam purchase does not automatically include a second attempt. Budget for any additional attempt, travel, or optional study material separately. A discount or voucher affects cost but does not alter eligibility, scoring, or the content outline.
Registration examples
A candidate in Hong Kong sees a test-center date in one language and a remote date in another. The right choice depends on which language the candidate can use confidently and whether the remote setup meets the proctor’s requirements. The exam’s regional presence does not promise an appointment in every city or language. The scheduler is the candidate-specific source of availability.
A candidate has an AZ-104 voucher from an employer but wants to book in a different country while traveling. Before relying on it, the candidate should confirm its market and currency restrictions, expiration, and whether the chosen provider accepts it for that appointment. The published exam fee can differ by proctored region, so an unused voucher may not behave like cash across locations.
A candidate has a government name that does not match the Microsoft profile. The candidate should fix the mismatch before paying and then verify that the provider appointment reflects the corrected name. Rescheduling may be needed if the provider has already imported the old profile. Taking a screenshot of the booking does not substitute for the identification policy.
Before you click Schedule
Have the intended Microsoft Learn account ready, know which delivery method you prefer, and identify whether you need an accommodation. Review appointment availability before making a study plan that depends on a particular date. Check regional fee and cancellation terms in the scheduler. Confirm your ID name, time zone, language, and voucher conditions. For online delivery, confirm computer and room readiness. These steps prevent administrative problems from competing with your exam preparation.
After booking, add the appointment to a calendar with the correct time zone, retain the confirmation, and review the launch instructions again shortly before the exam. If your appointment changes, update the calendar and use the latest confirmation. On exam day, follow the provider’s check-in directions and answer identity questions consistently. Good scheduling does not make the exam easier, but it lets you focus on Azure administration rather than avoidable logistics.
