Book through the AWS Certification Account
Sign in to your AWS Certification Account, open the exam scheduling area, and choose Developer Associate. Select Pearson VUE and continue to its scheduling page to choose a test center or online-proctored appointment, date, and time. Finish the purchase through the provider and save the confirmation email, which includes the appointment terms.
The published US price is US$150 for this Associate exam. Local currency prices and tax can differ. AWS offers holders of an AWS Certification a 50% discount on their next exam through their certification account. Check the account and payment screen for the amount applied before completing the booking.
Choose a testing center or online proctoring
Pearson VUE test centers provide in-person proctoring and a testing computer. Search the available locations and appointment times in your area. Consider travel time, accessibility, and the center’s check-in instructions before choosing a slot.
Online proctoring lets you test from a private space on your own computer while a remote proctor monitors the session. Check system requirements, run the compatibility test, and prepare a quiet room and reliable connection. Work devices may block required software; get IT assistance or use another compatible device before exam day.
Choose the setting you can control. A test center adds travel but supplies the equipment. Online testing avoids travel but depends on the candidate’s room, network, and computer. Appointment availability differs by location and delivery mode, so a page describing global access does not guarantee a specific seat or time.
Pay attention to the 2026 exam update
AWS lists October 27, 2026 as the opening date for registration for the updated Developer Associate exam. The last date to take the current exam is December 1, 2026. AWS has not yet published the complete updated guide in the sources available as of October 6.
Before choosing a date, confirm which version the scheduling account offers and match your study material to that version. If taking the current exam, prepare from its current guide. If booking the updated exam, use its guide and official materials after they are published. Do not assume the current domains, services, and weights remain unchanged.
Reschedule or cancel before the cutoff
AWS allows cancellation or rescheduling up to 24 hours before the appointment. A booking can be rescheduled twice. A third change requires cancelling and creating a new appointment. A change inside the final 24 hours may not be permitted, and a no-show can forfeit the exam fee.
A missed appointment is not recorded as a failed exam. AWS says you must wait 24 hours after the missed start time before registering again. If you cancel more than 24 hours beforehand, AWS’s FAQ describes refund conditions. Check the confirmation and current policy, especially if you used a voucher with an expiry date.
Put the appointment, 24-hour cutoff, voucher expiry if relevant, and current-exam final test date in your calendar. If work or travel changes, make adjustments early. The two-change limit per appointment means repeated date changes can turn into cancellation and a new registration.
Prepare for test day
For a center appointment, confirm address, route, identification, check-in time, and personal-item rules. For an online appointment, prepare your device and webcam, close prohibited software, clear the room, and ensure a stable network. Follow the provider’s confirmation instructions.
The exam is 130 minutes. Choose a time when you can focus and avoid scheduling immediately after a long shift if possible. Check that your account and identification details match well before the appointment.
The calendar choice should reflect both readiness and the exam-version boundary. AWS lists December 1, 2026 as the current version's final test date and October 27 as the start of registration for the update. A candidate should confirm which exam series is attached to a Pearson VUE appointment rather than assuming a familiar exam name means the same outline. If preparing for the current exam, schedule early enough to allow the 14-day retake interval in the event of a failure. If that timing cannot work, consider the updated exam deliberately and align study materials to its guide once published.
Online proctoring and a test center create different practical risks. For online delivery, read the check-in and room requirements before test day, confirm your computer and network meet the provider requirements, and arrange a private space where interruptions are unlikely. For a test center, verify the address, arrival instructions, identification accepted, and transport plan. In either case, the provider, not an informal study site, sets operational check-in conditions. Avoid troubleshooting devices or searching for ID documents at the appointment start.
Choose a date after a readiness checkpoint rather than using registration as motivation alone. Before paying, complete a timed mixed set and review weak areas. If you cannot finish all 65 questions in a 130-minute practice, make a pacing plan before the real appointment. Keep the appointment confirmation and know how to reach the provider if a genuine technical issue occurs. Do not disclose secure exam questions when asking for help.
Scheduling options are operationally changeable, so do not build a travel itinerary from an old blog post. Once you choose a delivery option, read the appointment confirmation for the exact start time, time zone, check-in window, location, and provider contact. A test-center appointment and an online-proctored appointment can have different availability even on the same day. If you need an accommodation or a particular language, begin that process before selecting a last-minute date.
AWS routes certification testing through Pearson VUE. Use the AWS Certification account to enter the scheduling flow, then confirm that the exam name, delivery method, region, and version match your plan before paying. Keep a copy of the receipt and rescheduling terms. The account is the source for the official credential record, while Pearson VUE manages the appointment itself; candidates should know which support route addresses an account issue and which handles test-day logistics.
Candidates with accessibility needs should use the formal accommodations process early. Do not assume an accommodation will be arranged by selecting a special note in the ordinary scheduling calendar. Review AWS and testing-provider instructions, submit any requested documentation through their designated route, and wait for approval before relying on a particular appointment format. This is especially important when the current version is approaching its retirement date, because provider capacity and dates may be limited.
Rescheduling has a practical interaction with study plans: do not move an appointment into a date when you have not completed a realistic practice set. If a work trip, illness, or equipment problem is foreseeable, act before the 24-hour cutoff. A late change or no-show can forfeit the fee, while a timely change avoids that specific penalty. The exact available dates still depend on the provider calendar, so check the live scheduler before making nonrefundable travel plans. A booking confirmation should be treated as the source for the local appointment details.
If you are booking close to a version retirement, verify the date in the scheduler before making an assumption from a saved web page. A location may have no remaining appointments even when the exam is technically available. Registration for the updated version opens on a separate date and may use different objectives. Build your plan around an appointment you can actually reserve, not merely a published availability window.
If you are using a training budget, verify whether an employer requires preapproval before you purchase an exam voucher or book an appointment. A voucher may cover the exam price but not travel, a course, or a retake. If you change the date, confirm that the voucher remains valid for the new appointment and that the version still matches your preparation. Keep the account confirmation and receipt in case you need to document the expense.
Keep the date, time zone, candidate name, and delivery method together in your calendar. Confirm the name on the appointment matches the identity document you plan to present. If you book online, test the system through the provider's procedure before the appointment; if you book at a center, plan arrival with enough time for check-in. These are practical safeguards, not a guarantee of a particular appointment slot.
