Register through your AWS Certification Account
AWS certification registration begins in an AWS Certification Account. Sign in at the AWS Training and Certification portal, open your account, choose Schedule New Exam, find AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02, and select the Pearson VUE scheduling option. Pearson VUE then shows available delivery locations, dates, and times. Complete the scheduling and payment steps in the provider flow and save the confirmation email.
The account is also where candidates manage appointments, view certification information, and access eligible benefits. Use a personal email address you can access after changing employers. The first and last name on the AWS Certification Account must match the identification used at the appointment. AWS says test administrators may refuse admission if they do not match, so resolve discrepancies at least two business days before the exam and follow AWS instructions.
Choose online proctoring or a testing center
AWS offers Pearson VUE appointments at testing centers and through online proctoring. At a center, you use the provider's computer and follow staff check-in procedures. The center controls room conditions and equipment, which can reduce concerns about a home computer or workspace, but appointment choices depend on location and availability. AWS recommends arriving 15 to 30 minutes early.
Online proctoring lets you test from a private room using your own computer while a proctor monitors the exam through webcam and screen sharing. English appointments are listed around the clock; other proctoring languages have specific schedules. Communication with the proctor is part of the process. Before scheduling, review Pearson VUE system requirements, run the system test on the computer and network you plan to use, and ensure the room meets the provider's rules.
| Delivery option | Useful when | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Pearson VUE test center | You prefer a controlled testing room or do not have a suitable private space | Travel, local appointment availability, early arrival, ID, and storage of personal belongings |
| Online proctoring | You have a private compliant room and stable compatible technology | System test, webcam and microphone, secure browser, network stability, room inspection, and proctor communication |
Neither option is automatically easier. A work-managed device may prevent required software from running. A home room with other people, multiple monitors, notes, or interruptions may not satisfy remote rules. A center may involve travel and fewer local time choices. Select the modality that lets you follow the testing rules reliably.
Check language and accommodation needs
AWS lists CLF-C02 in multiple languages, including English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. The exact exam and proctoring language options depend on provider availability and region. A localized exam may allow candidates to display English questions with a toggle, according to AWS's scheduling guidance. Confirm language in the appointment details before purchase, especially when proctor interaction uses a different language from the exam questions.
Candidates who need an accommodation should submit a request through AWS Training and Certification before scheduling. Wait for approval and follow the instructions for booking the accommodated appointment. Do not reserve an ordinary appointment assuming that a later change will apply the accommodation automatically. Keep the approval details and verify the confirmation reflects the approved arrangement.
Review the confirmation and protect the appointment
Read the entire confirmation email. Confirm the exam code, date, local time and time zone, delivery location or online setup, identification instructions, and check-in steps. Add reminders several days ahead and again on exam day. If the time is displayed in a different zone than expected, convert it carefully and preserve the original time zone in your calendar entry.
For an in-person appointment, bring the identification specified by Pearson VUE and arrive 15 to 30 minutes early. For remote delivery, clear the workspace, remove unauthorized materials and devices, and complete the room scan and identity checks when instructed. Do not rely on notes, another person's help, or unapproved devices; policy violations can end the session without a refund.
Reschedule or cancel before the 24-hour cutoff
AWS permits candidates to cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before the scheduled appointment without an additional fee. Manage the appointment through the AWS Certification Account using Manage Pearson VUE exams, then select the upcoming appointment. AWS limits an appointment to two reschedules. If a third change is needed, cancel the current appointment and schedule a new one for a suitable date.
The 24-hour rule is strict. Within the final 24 hours, the online account will not allow cancellation or rescheduling, and the delivery provider generally charges the full exam fee. If you miss the appointment, the fee is forfeited and the absence is not recorded as a failed exam. AWS says you cannot register again until 24 hours after the missed exam time.
AWS describes a medical or unforeseen emergency exception when appropriate documentation is provided; contact Pearson VUE for the provider's process. Do not assume an exception is automatic. Keep relevant records and follow the appointment confirmation's support instructions promptly.
Use vouchers and discounts carefully
AWS exam vouchers are valid for a specified period and may cover a full or partial exam fee. Check the expiration before changing an appointment because voucher dates cannot be extended. If you already hold an AWS certification, AWS provides a 50 percent discount on other certification exams through the account. The discount does not change the public list price; apply it through the eligible account when registering.
A voucher holder should also confirm which exam and region the voucher covers. A full-value voucher can be applied according to its terms, while a half-price voucher generally discounts the price at purchase. If foreign exchange rates or exam prices change, AWS's policy explains how voucher values apply. A voucher does not eliminate the appointment rules or guarantee that every center has an open seat.
Example: changing a work-conflict appointment
Suppose Amir schedules CLF-C02 for Friday at 2 p.m. and learns on Tuesday that a work event will conflict. He can sign into the Certification Account, open Manage Pearson VUE exams, and reschedule while still more than 24 hours ahead. If he has already rescheduled twice, a third move requires canceling the existing booking and creating a new one. If he waits until Thursday at 3 p.m., the appointment is inside the 24-hour period and ordinary rescheduling is no longer available.
The example shows why a calendar reminder is practical, not just administrative. Confirm the appointment when it is booked and check again several days before. If an emergency arises late, contact Pearson VUE as soon as possible and preserve documentation rather than simply missing the exam.
What happens after a missed appointment
A no-show forfeits the fee under AWS policy unless the provider approves an applicable exception. The no-show does not count as an exam failure, so the 14-day retake wait is not triggered; however, AWS says the candidate must wait 24 hours after the missed appointment time before registering again. A new appointment costs the full applicable fee unless a valid voucher or discount covers it.
If a testing center closes or Pearson VUE contacts you about a disruption, follow the provider's notice and reschedule using the instructions provided. Keep the cancellation notice and new confirmation. Provider-caused closure handling can differ from a candidate's voluntary late cancellation, so use the specific appointment communication rather than assuming the ordinary missed-appointment rule applies.
A short scheduling checklist
- Create or update the AWS Certification Account using your legal name and a stable email address.
- Choose the CLF-C02 exam and confirm the language and delivery modality.
- Check center availability or remote device and room requirements before paying.
- Submit accommodation requests and wait for approval before booking.
- Read the confirmation email and calendar the local date, time, and time zone.
- Make ordinary changes through the account at least 24 hours before the appointment.
- Remember that an appointment can be rescheduled twice; a third change requires cancellation and rebooking.
- Bring the required identification and arrive early, or complete remote checks from a compliant room.
Online appointment setup in more detail
For remote delivery, use a computer that meets Pearson VUE's requirements and has permission to run its secure testing application. Corporate laptops may restrict downloads, background monitoring, camera access, or administrative installation. Run the system test early on the exact computer, in the exact room, and over the network you expect to use. If it fails, resolve the issue or select a test center before the appointment date becomes difficult to change.
Prepare a private room with adequate lighting and a clear desk. Follow the provider's instructions about additional monitors, phones, watches, headphones, notes, food, and other items. Be ready to show identification and follow the proctor's workspace scan. The exact steps can change, so rely on the current Pearson VUE instructions in your confirmation rather than a checklist from an old blog post.
Identification and account-name matching
AWS requires the first and last name on the Certification Account to match the valid identification presented. The testing provider may refuse admission if they do not match. If the account needs a correction, AWS instructs candidates to change the profile or contact Training and Certification Customer Service at least two business days before the exam. AWS also says to cancel an existing appointment before requesting an account update and reschedule only after the change is processed, to avoid confusion at check-in.
Check name spelling, spacing, and order as soon as you create the account. A recently changed legal name, a transliteration difference, or an account using a nickname can create a preventable issue. Do not assume that presenting several IDs will override the account record. Confirm the acceptable documents and exact name requirements in the appointment confirmation and AWS policy.
Appointment changes have limits
The 24-hour deadline is measured from the appointment time. If an exam is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, an ordinary change must be completed before 2 p.m. Thursday. Do not wait until the last moment to determine how the provider's portal calculates the deadline, especially if the appointment and your current location use different time zones. The confirmation email should show the scheduled local time.
A candidate can make two reschedules for an appointment. For a third change, AWS requires cancellation and a fresh booking. This may matter if the preferred new date is limited or if a voucher will expire. Check the voucher expiration before canceling, since a voucher cannot be extended simply because an appointment moved. A candidate may also be subject to local refund rules, so consult the account and confirmation terms.
Handle a medical or unexpected emergency
If illness or an unforeseen emergency arises within the 24-hour window, contact Pearson VUE promptly and follow its documented exception process. AWS policy describes a possible fee waiver or reschedule when appropriate documentation is submitted. The candidate should retain medical or other evidence and the provider's case number. A verbal explanation at a later date may not be enough to qualify.
If the candidate cannot meet the remote system or room requirements on exam day, tell the proctor and use the provider's support channel. Do not try to bypass the rules with an unapproved device or another person. A rule violation can terminate the exam and may not result in a refund. The safest response is to test the setup early and reschedule while outside the cutoff if the environment is not suitable.
Test-day timing and exam controls
At a testing center, arrive 15 to 30 minutes before the scheduled time as AWS recommends. Check-in can include confirming the account name and exam, showing identification, signing the provider agreement, photographing, and storing belongings. The exam begins only after the required process and on-screen agreement. For online testing, begin system and identity checks early enough to communicate with the proctor before the appointment window closes.
AWS policies state that scheduled breaks are not configured; at a test center, unscheduled breaks may be permitted, but exam time continues. For online delivery, follow the proctor's break and room rules. The exam interface permits navigation between questions and flagging items for review under AWS's general testing policy, but candidates should verify current functionality and instructions presented for their appointment.
The process is straightforward when registration, delivery, and changes are handled through the proper account. Your appointment confirmation controls the candidate-specific details. Settle the name and modality early, run the system test if online, and make any date change before the 24-hour cutoff.
