What it requires
At least 500 hours of equivalent work experience as a pharmacy technician, complete at the time of application, plus a supervisor attestation covering the same knowledge requirements used to evaluate recognized programs.
Five hundred hours is roughly three months of full-time work, so many working technicians already qualify.
What changed in 2020
The dual-pathway structure dates from 1 January 2020. The work-experience route was not removed then; it was made evidenced.
That is why the attestation matters. It is the mechanism that replaced a program's curriculum coverage.
It depends on a supervisor completing a form covering specific knowledge areas. That person is busy and it is not their deadline. Candidates who ask a fortnight before they want to apply are the ones who wait. Ask at the start of your study, not the end.
What the route prepares you for
Patient Safety, mostly. Nineteen scored questions describing judgment a working technician exercises daily.
And the procedural parts of Order Entry: equipment, lot numbers, expiration dates, returns.
