Exam accommodations
Accommodations are requested with supporting documentation before scheduling. Additional time, a separate room and assistive arrangements are among those available, and review takes time.
A formal process, and one where the timing matters as much as the request.
Request before scheduling
Accommodations are arranged in advance rather than at the test center. A candidate arriving on the day with a request has left it too late.
Review takes time, and your twelve-month approval window runs whether or not you are waiting on it.
What is typically available
- Additional testing time
- A separate testing room
- Permission for medication, food or a medical device
- Assistive technology
- Additional or extended breaks
Documentation
Evidence from a qualified professional describing the condition and the functional limitation it produces under testing conditions.
The strongest requests connect the condition to the specific barrier. A diagnosis explains less than an account of what it prevents you doing across five and a half hours. Ask early. It is not disclosed.
This is one of the longest licensing examinations there is. Conditions that would be manageable across a two-hour paper are a different matter here, and that is worth saying in a request.
It is not disclosed to a state board
An accommodation is part of the testing arrangement. It does not appear on your result or on any transcript sent to a licensing agency.
If you are unsure
Ask. Nothing is lost by a request that is declined, and the current bulletin explains the process.
