One subtest at USD 32.50 is a cheap experiment, and a passing subtest score never expires, so it keeps if you decide years later. Sitting all four for USD 130 while undecided is not. Check the alternative-score rule first, because that costs nothing at all.
Short version: yes to one subtest, no to four, and do the free thing before either. The reasoning takes a bit longer and it turns on what you are actually buying.
Do the free move first
Rule 6A-4.0021(12) lets qualifying GRE, SAT, ACT and CLT scores satisfy the general knowledge requirement subtest by subtest. A single SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 560 covers three of the four. If a score you already hold qualifies, the question on this page never arises for those subtests.

The top-right cell is the important one. This test covers ten competencies and 57 skills across language, reading and mathematics, and not one of them is about children, classrooms or instruction. Sitting it to resolve your doubts about teaching is like taking a driving theory test to find out whether you enjoy long journeys. Pick the subtest you are worst at
This is the counterintuitive part and it is the recommendation we would actually give a friend. If you sit one subtest as an experiment, do not pick your strongest. Pick the one you dread.
You are not buying a pass. You are buying information about how expensive this route is going to be, and your strongest subtest tells you nothing you didn't already know. The subtest you have been avoiding is the one that decides whether the whole thing takes you a month or a year.
For most people that is Mathematics or the essay. Mathematics is 35 questions in 100 minutes with a calculator and reference sheet supplied. The essay is 50 minutes of continuous writing to a prompt, rated by two people whose scores are summed against a passing total of 6, and it had the lowest published first-attempt pass rate of the four subtests in 2025 at 64%.

More than a third of candidates retake something, so a failed subtest puts you in ordinary company rather than in trouble. By our own arithmetic across the four published first-attempt rates, roughly a quarter of candidates clear all four the first time, and the derivation is on the compound first-attempt page.
The calculation we cannot do for you
Every version of this question ends in the same place. Is the certification route worth it? That is a payback calculation, it needs an earnings figure, and we hold no salary data for Florida teachers. None. Not a state average, not a band, not a starting salary.
We could go and take one off an aggregator in a minute, and so could you, which is the point. We don't publish numbers we can't check against a primary source, and a salary figure that has been copied between four sites before it reached us is not a number, it is a rumor with a decimal point. Your district publishes a salary schedule. Read that one.
So the honest answer to "is it worth it" is that we can price the examination exactly and cannot price the outcome at all. USD 130 for all four subtests, USD 32.50 to try one, and a decision about the rest that belongs to you and to a public document we are not going to paraphrase.

What happens if you fail a subtest you sat as an experiment?
You retake that subtest alone as a fresh USD 32.50 registration, after at least 30 days from the previous administration. Nothing else follows from it. In 2025, 37.2% of General Knowledge candidates retook at least one subtest, so it is the ordinary outcome rather than a mark against you.
Which subtest should you sit first as a test of the water?
The one you are worst at. You are buying information about how expensive the route will be, and your strongest subtest tells you nothing new. For most people that means Mathematics or the essay, and the essay had the lowest 2025 first-attempt pass rate at 64%.
